or "a" over "c." In each ratio the letter in the same position as "a" in
relation to "c" represents the numerator, which can be given a numerical
value.
The letter "c" in relation to the position of "a" represents the
denominator, which can be given a numerical value.
If the letter "a" is
assigned the numerical value of 2 and the letter "c" is assigned the
numerical value of 4, the mathematical expression would be that the number 2
must be divided by the number 4.
Thus, 2/4 = .5.
