INTRODUCTION
This lesson introduces you to the procedures used to maintain the G/VLLD in
peak operating condition. After a review of the description, purpose, and
operation of the G/VLLD, the lesson discusses the requirements for routine
inspections and general maintenance.
The lesson concludes with a
description of the testing and troubleshooting procedures you use to repair
the G/VLLD when a malfunction occurs.
The G/VLLD set operates in the field to determine the position of an enemy
target and/or to illuminate a target for destruction by laser-seeking
ordnance. When used with the AN/TAS-4 or AN/TAS-4B night sight, the G/VLLD
operates with 24-hour effectiveness.
The G/VLLD operates in the ground
mode, or in the vehicular mode mounted on the M113A1 personnel carrier. The
G/VLLD is a category C laser designator, with the capability of operating as
a category A or B designator. Figure 1-1 lists
