lower the spare tire.

Used to remove dirt and moisture

(l) Fuel-Water Separator (L).
removes any water from the fuel before entering the engine.
(m) Battery Box (M).
Houses and protects the four storage batteries.
(n) No. 1 Driving Axle (N).
Controls the direction of the vehicle
when in motion. When needed, it transmits power to the hubs to turn
the wheels.
(o) No. 2 Driving Axle (O).
Controls the direction of the vehicle
when in motion. When needed, it transmits power to the hubs to turn
the wheels.
Used to store air system air.
(q) Self-Recovery Winch (Q) (nut used on all vehicles).
Used to
enable the vehicle to pull itself free of obstructions.
(2) M977 Cargo Vehicle. (figure 10 on the following page). In the
following subparagraphs, we will discuss the location of components
peculiar to the M977 version.
(a) Stowage Boxes (A).
Used to stow basic issue items (BII).
(b) Access Ladder (B). Used by the crew to clean windows, check-oil,
or perform other tasks requiring access to parts of the vehicle out of
normal reach.
(c) Cargo Body (C). Used to carry palletized ammunition.
Tiedowns
are provided to allow ammunition pallets to be secured (D).
(d) Material Handling Crane (D).
Used to load and unload cargo.
