MAINTENANCE OF THE M88A1 - OD1672, - LESSON 2/TASK 1
WARNING
Injury to personnel could result if contacted by the
spray from an improperly installed fuel line. Fuel is
delivered by the fuel injector pump to the injectors
at pressures exceeding 2000 psi.
Step 6.
During the engine fuel leakage check, if leakage is detected,
immediately shut off the engine and tighten the loose connectors.
WARNING
Spilled fuel on a hot engine will vaporize, creating
combustible fumes which constitutes a fire hazard.
Allow the engine to cool before restarting it.
Step 7.
Wipe the engine clean of spilled fuel and restart the engine to
assure that all fuel leakage has been eliminated.
Upon elimination of
leaks, reinstall the right and left upper covers, cooling fans, and engine
deck in the reverse order of their removal.
d.
Air Intake System.
Listed below is an example of the correct
procedure unit maintenance personnel would follow for the troubleshooting,
maintenance, adjustment, and repair of this system, specifically: ENGINE HAS
LOW STALL RPM, DOES NOT DEVELOP FULL POWER AND HAS EXCESSIVE SMOKE FROM BOTH
BANKS OF CYLINDERS.
(1) Troubleshooting.
To
troubleshoot
this
malfunction,
unit
maintenance personnel would check both the exhaust and air intake systems
for damage or restrictions. The air cleaner is the only source of air to
the engine, and it may be that the filter element in the air cleaner has
become clogged up with dust, or that the hoses and tubes leading from the
result of operating conditions.
It is also possible that the exhaust
outlets and pipes may have become damaged preventing the escape of exhaust
gases, thereby creating a back pressure preventing the exhaust gases from
escaping out of the engine cylinders and
