hydrocarbon fuel fire is detected.  Should a large fire occur in the
crew compartment, the SCEA will activate the FIRE ALARM lamp on the
crew compartment T/A panel and automatically activates two fire
extinguishers on vehicles 1 through 344 and three fire extinguishers
on vehicles 345 and above.  Should the existing fire continue or a
second fire occur, the SCEA will activate the remaining crew fire
extinguishers.  When OFSA detects a small fuel fire, a signal from
the SCEA causes the FIRE ALARM lamp on the T/A panel to flicker.
The crew may then use a portable fire extinguisher or activate the
red-guarded MANUAL  DISCHARGE toggle switch  on  the T/A  panel to
extinguish  the  small  fire.
Built-in  test  equipment  is  also
incorporated in the SCEA and is used to internally test the unit for
normal  operation.
A  fault  in  the  SCEA  will  be  indicated  by

The crew AFES fire extinguishers, like the
engine AFES fire extinguishers, are also constructed of steel.  They
are equipped with a quick-release valve, filled with Halon 1301 fire
suppressant and pressurized with dry nitrogen for use on hydrocarbon
fuel fires only.  The crew AFES of vehicles 1 through 344 have four
10-pound automatic fire extinguishers and vehicles 345 and above are
equipped with six 7-pound automatic fire extinguishers.  The crew
