M2/M3 BFV:
STEERING SYSTEM - OD1605 - LESSON 1/TASK 1
vehicle. The STE-M1/FVS (VTM only) is used to test electrical parts.
Specific tests to be performed using this test equipment will be
explained in the troubleshooting procedures that follow. However, to
successfully use the STE-M1/FVS (VTM only) to run any test, it is
important to know how to hook up the test set to the vehicle.
The
STE-M1/FVS (VTM only) can be hooked up to two places on the BFV, DCA
3 or DCA 13 on the vehicle distribution box.
NOTE
Make sure that the VTM does not touch metal.
False readings can result when the VTM touches
metal.
b.
Hookup to DCA 3. To hook up the STE-M1/FVS (VTM only) to DCA 3
on the vehicle distribution box, follow these steps:
Step 1.
Remove the VTM and cable W1 from the transit case (see
figure 1 on the following page).
Now move the STE-M1/FVS equipment
Step 2.
Install plug W1P1 on VTM jack J1 (see figure 2 on the
following page).
Step 3.
Install plug W1P2 on the vehicle distribution box jack
1A1J14 (DCA 3)(see figure 3 on page 6). To do this, remove the cap
from jack 1A1J14 (DCA 3) and install plug W1P2 on the jack.
Step 4.
Move the MASTER POWER switch to the ON position.
Three situations could arise.
If all is working well, the display
should read 8888 and then - - - - (four dashes). If the display does
not read 8888 and - - - - (four dashes) consecutively, but is not
blank, the VTM is faulty, and should be written up as such on DA Form
2404.
If the display is blank, the procedures for performing
diagnostic troubleshooting of the STEM1/FVS (VTM only) for a blank
display can be found, when needed, on page 3-903 of TM 9-2350-252-20-
1-1. These procedures will not be covered in this subcourse.
