The Tracta-type constant velocity joint is not like the other types, since no steel balls are
used to provide the flexible drive. In place of the balls, two tongue-and-groove portions
are mounted between the inner and outer axles. These two portions, or halves, are called
a universal joint. The two halves of the universal joint are made as male and female to fit
together in a floating (movable) connection. Each of the two center portions is made to
be mounted on an axle shaft yoke. The yoke on the inner end of each axle shaft provides
