As the temperature of the coolant rises, the thermostat begins to
open.
This action restricts the bypass system and permits the
coolant to circulate through the radiator.
When the thermostat is
completely open, and the bypass system is completely blocked, all
coolant must go through the radiator.
A properly operating
thermostat is necessary for efficient operation of the engine.
