the projectiles removed from the rack assemblies and stowed items removed
from the stowage boxes at the top of the rack assembly. If the vehicle is
not level, the racks may tip over and cause injury or equipment damage.
When both racks are to be moved, the right rack assembly is the first to be
removed. When only one rack is to be moved, the stacker is positioned in
front of the stationary rack to keep the stationary rack in a more secure
position.
The final step for fire extinguisher deactivation is to ENSURE the locking
pin (Item 5, Figure 11) is installed in the valve actuator guard (Item 6,
Figure 11) before disconnecting the fire extinguisher harnesses. After the
locking pins are installed, loosen the nut (Item 7, Figure 11) which secures
the dispersion nozzle (Item 8, Figure 11) to the cylinder bottles. Ensure
the nut is only loosened and not removed. Immediately after the dispersion
nozzle is removed, remove the anti-recoil plugs (Item 9, Figure 11) from
their holding fixtures and install them on the extinguisher cylinder
bottles. You are now prepared to perform maintenance or repairs on the AFES
as required.
3.
Reactivation.
You have completed the necessary inspection, maintenance, and repair on the
AFES, now you must reactivate the system.
The reactivation process is
The first step for you to take in order to reactivate the AFES is to remove
the anti-recoil plugs (Item 9, Figure 11) from the cylinder bottles and
secure them in their holding fixtures.
Immediately after removing and
securing the anti-recoil plugs, install the dispersion nozzles (Item 8,
Figure 11) on each cylinder bottle and tighten. Now you must back off the
nozzle (no more than one turn) until the engraved line (Item 11, Figure 11)
is in the up (vertical) position then tighten the nozzle nut. At this stage
of reactivation, remove the locking pin (Item 5, Figure 11) from the
actuator guard on engine cylinder bottle no. 2 and crew cylinder bottles no.
3 and 4. Do not remove any other locking pins. Reconnect battery ground
cables and set the MASTER switch to the ON position.
Now set the
MAINTenance switch in the horizontal (power on) position and verify that the
Built-in Test Equipment test was successful. Refer to Part E - Performance
of AFES Test, for details on conducting the BITE test.
Upon successful
completion of the BITE test, move the projectile racks to the front of the
vehicle as outlined in TM 9-2350-267-10.
