M2/M3 BFV: HULL POWER DIST SYSTEM - OD1606 - LESSON 2/TASK 1
(a) Cables. The first items to be inspected are the multimeter
Inspect the cables for cuts, sharp nicks, and fraying.
Check the cable jack plugs; they should be tight on the cables and
the probes should be clean.
Now inspect the cable test probes; they should be tight on the cable,
and the tips should be free of paint or any other substance that may
act as an insulator.
The TS-352B/U multimeter must be recalibrated every six
months; be sure that the multimeter has been calibrated within that
(c) Meter. Inspect the meter to be sure that the glass and/or
the pointer are not broken. The pointer should be resting over the
zero marks at the left slide of the scales.
(d) Jack Sockets.
Make sure that the jack sockets are open and
free of dirt.
Make sure that the batteries are not corroded
to be sure that the batteries are installed
Move the switches to make sure that they work
freely without binding or scraping.
(2) Performing a Zero Adjust. Since the multimeter should be zero
adjusted before it is used in a test and whenever the RANGE switch is
moved during a test, the zero adjust procedures will be discussed
Use the procedures below to zero adjust the TS-352B/U
First, set the RANGE switch to the desired range of ohms position.
Now plug the black lead into the ohms -DC AC jack. Put the red lead
into the left ohms jack.
With the leads connected, place the
FUNCTION switch to OHMS. Now zero adjust the meter. Touch the two
probes together and turn the OHMS ZERO ADJ knob until the needle
settles exactly over "0" (zero) that is on the right side of the very
top meter scale.
