malfunction TRANSFER CASE OIL LEAKAGE to the conclusion that the
transfer case should be sent to intermediate direct support (IDS)
maintenance.
Prior to beginning the troubleshooting procedures, SGT Mitchell reads
DA Form 2404 and talks to the operator.
After this has been done,
SGT Mitchell reads through the troubleshooting procedure to determine
what tools are necessary to perform the troubleshooting procedure.
For this malfunction, SGT Mitchell will need a mechanic's general
toolbox.
Now that the necessary tools have been gathered together,
he configures the vehicle according to the conditions specified in
paragraphs 3a(1) thru 3a(5) on page 34 of this task.
Now SGT
Mitchell is ready to begin the troubleshooting procedures.
Step 1.
First, he inspects the drainplugs for leaks and looseness.
Since the plugs did not appear to be leaking or to be loose, SGT
Mitchell will proceed to troubleshooting step 2.
Step 2. In this step SGT Mitchell inspects the transfer case housing
far evidence of leaks.
SGT Mitchell found evidence of a leak;
however he could not find any crack in the housing where the leak was
coming from. Since this is the case, he will send the transfer case
housing to IDS maintenance where they will perform a dye-penetrant
inspection to find and repair the cause of the leak.

Power Takeoff Systems Troubleshooting.
In the following
paragraphs we will follow SGT Best as he troubleshoots the power
takeoff system for the malfunction EXCESSIVE NOISE AT POWER TAKEOFF
and reaches the conclusion that the propeller shaft is bent and needs
to be replaced.
Prior to beginning troubleshooting, SGT Best reads DA Form 2404 and
talks with the operator. After this has been done he reads through
the troubleshooting procedures to determine the necessary tools and
equipment. For this particular malfunction SGT Best will need only a
mechanic's general toolbox.
Once SGT Best has the tools, he
configures the vehicle according to the requirements listed in
paragraphs 3a(1) thru 3a(5) on page 34 of this task. SGT Best is now
ready to begin troubleshooting.
