INTRODUCTION
The
G/VLLD
set operates in the field to determine the position of an
enemy
target and/or to illuminate a target for destruction by laser-
seeking ordnance.
When
used with the
AN/TAS-4
or
AN/TAS-4B
night sight,
the
G/VLLD
operates with 24-hour effectiveness. The
G/VLLD
operates in
the ground
mode,
or in the vehicular
mode
mounted on the
M113A1
personnel
carrier.
This lesson identifies the controls of the
G/VLLD
and describes their
functions to assist you in using the system.
It also describes the
functional operation
of the components and the assemblies of the unit.
The
G/VLLD
is a category C laser designator, with the capability of
operating as a category A or B designator. Figure 1-1 lists the warnings
and safety disciplines you must follow for safe operation of any laser-
generating device.
