Step 4.
Remove wire lead 3W3E2 (21)(figure 2 on the previous page) from the
starter bus bar (22) by removing the locknut (23). Tag the lead to avoid confusion
with the other leads. Discard the locknut.
Step 5.
Remove the wire lead 3W5E2 (24), the starter bus bar (22), and the
jumper lead (25) from the terminal (26) of the starter (27) by removing the nut
(28) washer (29), and lockwasher (30). Tag the lead to avoid confusing it with the
other leads. Do not discard the lockwasher.
Step 6.
Remove wire lead 3W1E17 (31), shown in figure 3 on the following page,
from the terminal (32) on the solenoid (33) by removing the nut (34) and lockwasher
(35). Do not discard the lockwasher. Tag the lead to keep it from being confused
with the others.
Step 7.
Remove lead 3W1E15 (36) from the terminal (37) on the solenoid (33) by
removing the nut (38) and lockwasher (39). Do not discard the lockwasher. Tag the
lead to keep it from being confused with the others.
Step 8.
Remove the starter (40) from the housing (41) by removing screws (42),
(44), and (46). Remove and discard lockwashers (43), (45), and (47). Remove and
discard the gasket (48).

Care should be taken to keep the starter from falling off
while removing the screws which secure the starter to the

between the starter and the hull of the vehicle or tie a
piece of rope around the starter and have the mechanic's
helper hold the other end of the rope to keep the starter
from falling while the mechanic removes the screws. If the
starter falls, it could injure personnel or damage the
transducers.
