INTRODUCTION TO THE M113A3 ARMORED PERSONNEL CARRIER
LEARNING OBJECTIVE
Action:
Recognize and describe the differences between the M113A3
armored personnel carrier and the previous models of the
M113 family of armored personnel carriers.
Conditions: You will be given information from TM 9-2350-261-10; TM
9-2350-261-10-1; TM 9-2350-277-10; and TM 9-2350-277-1.
Standards:
Describe the differences and the locations of new
components of the M113A3 in accordance with TM 9-2350-
277-10 and TM 9-2350-277-20-1.
INTRODUCTION
A good understanding of an item of equipment is a necessary
ingredient before you, as track vehicle repairer, can properly
operate or repair that item of equipment. This subcourse introduces
you to the M113A3 armored personnel carrier (APC) and describes the
location of the vehicle's major components and identifies the purpose
of these components.
You will also become knowledgeable as to the
differences between the M113A2 and M113A3 configurations.
When you
complete this subcourse, you should have no difficulty recognizing
the major differences between the older M113 family of vehicles and
the M113A3 family of vehicles.
PART A - INTRODUCTION TO THE M113A3 ARMORED PERSONNEL CARRIER
1.
General.
A number of changes have been made to the basic M113 APC in order to
improve the fighting capability of the M113 carrier fleet. There are
undoubtedly many personnel who can remember the basic M113, which was
models which incorporated a diesel engine, among other improvements.
This subcourse will introduce you to the M113A3 model of the APC
family, which is used in the current inventory of tracked vehicles.
