Particle Separator (fig. 1-42).
The particle separator serves as the point of entry for outside air
used for cooling and is located at the aft end of the left sponson
area.
The rectangular shaped particle separator has 110 tubes to
provide airflow through the separator. An ejector outlet located at
one end of the separator provides a path for the scavenge air and the
contaminates to leave the system.

Operation (fig. 1-43).
Through its design, the particle
separator removes contaminates from the cooling air
entering the sponson area that cause excessive wear on the
fan section of the ACM and obstruct the flow of air through
