MAINTENANCE OF THE M88A1 - OD1672 - LESSON 2/TASK 1
Step 3.  After the throttle rod has been removed, loosen the two coupling
nuts on the transmission breather tube (figure 27, view A, on the previous
page), and remove the transmission breather tube.
Step 4.  Remove two clamps, one from each end of the crankcase breather tube
(figure 27, view B), and remove the crankcase breather tube.  The removal of
the defective exhaust pipe can now be accomplished.
Step 5.
After the powerplant has been removed from the vehicle, and the
crankcase  and  transmission  breather  tubes  have  been  removed  from  the
powerplant,  the  removal  of  the  defective  left  exhaust  pipe  can  be
accomplished.
Begin this procedure by removing six locking nuts and six
lockwashers (figure 27, view C) that connect the exhaust pipe to the exhaust
end of the turbosupercharger; remove the exhaust pipe by pulling it away
from the turbosupercharger.
Step 6.  Procure a new exhaust pipe and install the preformed packing from
the defective exhaust pipe, if it is still serviceable.
If it is not
serviceable, procure a new preformed packing and install it on the new pipe
by placing it over the top end of the new exhaust pipe.
Step 7.
Install the new exhaust pipe onto the superturbocharger in the
reverse order of removal.
Step  8.
Reinstall  the  crankcase  and  transmission
breathers,
and
the
throttle rod in the reverse order of removal.
Step 9.  Reinstall the engine and engine deck on the vehicle.  This is the
last  step  in  the  troubleshooting,  maintenance,  adjustment,  and  repair
procedure of the cooling, fuel, exhaust, and air intake systems of the M88A1
recovery vehicle.
5.
