M2/M3 BFV: FIRE CONTROL SYSTEM - OD1608 - LESSON 1/TASK 3
WARNING
Never look at the sun through the backup sight;
doing so could cause blindness.
WARNING
Accidental firing of the gun may result in death
or  injury.
Make  sure  that  the  manual  safety
handle is at SAFE.
Clear and unload the gun
before boresighting.
WARNING
Hands  could  be  injured  if  they  strike  objects
when cranking the 25mm gun manually.  Keep hands
clear of objects near the hand crank.
WARNING
During boresighting, fast motion of the gun could
cause injury.
Make sure that the turret is in
the manual mode.  Move the gun very slowly during
boresighting.
b. Boresighting  Procedures.
Boresighting  the  backup  sight
consists of focusing the backup sight reticle on the target aiming
point, and aligning the reticle in elevation and azimuth, as needed,
by  performing  an  elevation  linkage  adjustment  and  a  horizontal
adjustment.
First, boresight the 25mm gun.
Then, the backup sight
can be boresighted using this procedure:
(1) Reposition the backup sight to the commander's position.
To do this, follow these steps:
(a) Press the lock lever toward the eyepiece housing assembly
(figure 20 on the following page).
(b) Swivel  the
eyepiece
housing
assembly
downward;
then
release the lock lever.
(c) Push the eyepiece housing assembly into its new position.
