The AN/TVQ-2, G/VLLD set can be set up in the ground mode using a tripod mount; or
it may be used with the M113A1 personnel carrier.
Figure 1-2 illustrates the
G/VLLD set in the tripod mounted configuration.
The G/VLLD separates into four replaceable major units and two minor assemblies.
The four major units are:
Laser designator/rangefinder (LD/R).
Traversing unit (TU).
The two minor assemblies are:
a. LD/R backpack with lens cleaning kit.
b. Tripod/TU backpack with spare battery.
The G/VLLD also comes with an ancillary equipment transit assembly case.
descriptions of each component are discussed later in the lesson.
The G/VLLD is transportable in the two backpack assemblies.
Two men afoot
transport the G/VLLD (if used, the night sight requires an additional man), or it
is transported by the vehicle.
It may be operated by one man, either in the
kneeling or sitting position.
The G/VLLD operates on a self-contained rechargeable battery or from a vehicle
source using a 25-foot vehicle cable with a filter.
When mounted on the support
tripod, it may be adjusted to accommodate terrain with 0 to 20 degree slope. The
azimuth locator coordinate may be adjusted to any reference value.
The following paragraphs describe the major units and assemblies of the G/VLLD.
