b. The  X200-4  transmission  incorporates  a  frictional  lockup
clutch to eliminate slippage.
Even at normal highway speeds, there
is a certain amount of slippage in the torque converter.  The lockup
clutch  locks  the  turbine  to  the  torque  converter  housing  which
eliminates slippage.
When slippage is eliminated, the vehicle will
experience better fuel mileage and transmission wear will be greatly
reduced.
Figure  1-16  provides  an  example  of  a  torque  converter
equipped with a lockup clutch.
