C.
To  give  the
towed
vehicle
steering
and
braking
capabilities.
All braking and steering actions are accomplished within
the
transmission.
The
final
drives
connect
the
transmission and the tracks together.  If the final drives
are not connected to the transmission, there is no way to
transmit  these  actions  to  the  tracks  to  control  the
vehicle.
A tow bar provides a positive link between the
towed vehicle and the towing vehicle for control purposes.
(page 9, para 3)
6.
D.
Cooling and lubrication.
In  addition  to  transmitting  torque  and  motion,  the
continual movement of oil through the converter assembly
provides lubrication and cooling.  (page 12, para 7)
7.
C.
Third.
The first, second, and fourth clutches are used to provide
a  forward  and  reverse  range.
The  only  time  the  third
clutch  is  used  is  to  provide  the  third  range  forward.
(page 18, para 3)
8.
B.
The  output  pump  check  valve  opens  and  allows
the
output pump to feed the primary hydraulic circuit.
This  normally  closed  check  valve  provides  an  interface
between the main pump and the output pump.
If the main
pump  fails  for  any  reason,  this  check  valve  reacts  by
opening and allowing the output pump to provide pressure
and flow to the main hydraulic circuit.  (page 27, para 2)
9.
D.
Direction of rotation of the hydrostatic pump.
The function of the supercharge check valves is to provide
oil to the hydrostatic pump at all time.  The direction of
rotation of the hydrostatic pump determines which port will
be pressure and return.
Since the rotation of the pump
determines
which
port
is
pressure
and
return,
the
supercharge
check
valves'
reaction
to
the
rotation
determines which one of them will be open to provide oil to
the pump continuously.  (page 59, para 2)
