Current Regulator
This unit prevents the generator from destroying itself by delivering too much current. To control
the current output of the generator, the current regulator controls the amount of current going
through the fields by adding resistance to the field windings. When the current output of the
generator starts to go too high, the current regulators put resistance into the field circuit. This
resistance may be put into, and taken out of, the generator field circuit as many as 200 times a
second. The result is that the average of this resistance will limit the current to a safe value, which
will keep the generator from destroying itself.
